The Duffle Coat, also known as the Toggle Coat,is a great option for cold winter days and finally winter weather has hit NYC. It’s called a Duffle Coat because it was originally made from duffle,a thick, wool material. This coat was first worn by military personnel of the British Navy during World War I. It reached the masses in the 1950s as a military surplus item. Despite its rich history,my first encounter with the Duffle Coat was at a very young age when I saw it on the dapper Paddington Bear.
To this day,it is still a stylish choice because of its distinguishing feature, the toggles and loops in the front of the coat. The Duffle Coat is definitely a nice alternative to the ubiquitous peacoat you see around every fall and winter.
